Gothumai means Dhaliya or lapsi or wheat rawa. One of the traditional payasam of Kerala made with moong daal, daliya, , jaggery and coconut milk.It is very easy to make this. You will get different sizes of lapsi rawa. Choose slightly bigger size lapsi. rawa. I used store bought coconut powder to make coconut milk. You can use fresh coconut milk also. Let us see how to make this Payasam.
Preparation time approx. 40 minutes.
Ingredients.
- 1/4 cup ( heaped) lapsi. ( use big size lapsi.)
- 1/4 cup moong daal( leveled cup)
- 400 gram jaggery.
- 3/4 liter coconut milk
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- 1 tbsp ghee
- few broken cashew nuts.
Method.
Dry fry moong daal till the raw smell goes.
Take a vessel and add lapsi and moong daal. Add 2 cups of water and pressure cook for 5 to 6 whistles. Keep aside.
In a pan add jaggery and half cup of water. Let the jaggery melt. Strain the syrup.
Boil the strained syrup again. When bubbles started forming add the cooked lapsi and moong daal mixture. Let it cook for few minutes and it will become thick .
At this stage add 3/4 liter of medium thick coconut milk and boil. Stir continuously for 2 minutes.
Switch off the stove.
Heat 1 tbsp ghee.
Add broken cashew nuts. let it change the color. Pour this over the pradhaman.
