Nellikka or Amla or Indian gooseberry is having lot of health benefits .My grand mother used to eat 1 nellikkai daily. I learnt this recipe from my grand mother.
Amla or nellikkai is used to make many medicines in ayurveda.
I tried this nellikkai rice for lunch box. We can make this with in 20 minutes. Let us see how to make this simple rice. We can have this rice without any side dish. Mixed vegetable koottu is one of the best combo for this rice.
Preparation time approx 20 minutes.
Ingredients.
- 3 big nellikka or amla or indian gooseberry.
- 1 1/2 cup cooked rice. I used raw rice.
- 2 tbsp ground nuts.
- 4 green chillies
- 1 piece of ginger.
- salt to taste.
- 2 tbsp sesame oil or gingelly oil
- 1 tsp ghee.
for seasoning
- 1/2 tsp mustard
- 1/2 tsp urad daal
- 1/2 tsp channa daal
- few curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp asafoetdia
Method.
Grate or crush amla or nellikkai. Remove the seed.
Cook the rice and spread on a plate. keep this for cooling.
chop the green chillies and ginger or grind it .
Heat oil and ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds when it started crackling add groundnuts. when it become fried add urad and channa dal. Let it become brown.Now add ginger and green chillies ,curry leaves and asafoetida. Saute. Add grated or crushed nellikka or amla. Fry for few minutes. Add salt. Add cooked rice and mix well.
