nendran pazham halwa or plantain halwa

Being a keralite we have lot of nendran pzham at my home garden . I love this banana in any form. I tried this halwa for navrathri festival. It is very easy to make with very few items. Let us see how to make this,

Preparation time approx 20 to 25 minutes.

  • 3 riped plantain,
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar. ( we can use normal sugar also)
  • 2 tbsp wheat flour.
  • 4 tbsp ghee or clarified butter.
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • few broken cashewnuts.

Peel the skin of banana.

Grind this in to a fine paste.Keep aside.

Heat 1/2 tsp ghee and fry wheat flour till you get a good aroma. do not over fry. Take it out and keep aside.

Heat 1 more tsp ghee and fry the cashew nuts till it turns brown and keep aside.

Add 1 tbsp ghee and fry the ground banana for few seconds. Add fried wheat flour and brown sugar. Keep the stove on medium fire and fry . When it come in to thick lump add the remaining ghee and fry.

It will come as a thick lump. Now add cardamom powder and cashewnuts, Mix well.

Put this in a greased tray .Let it become cool.

Now you can cut this in to any shape.
