Chutneys are unavoidable side dish for breakfast in my family. I am bored of making coconut chutney. Thought of making some different chuntey for dosa today .
I made this tomato , channa daal chutney without coconut. It came out very well. It goes well with Idly, Dosa, Adai, Paniyaram, Aappam etc. Let us see how to make this easy chutney with in few minutes.
Preparation time approx 15 minutes.
Ingredients.
- 2tbsp channa daal
- 2 big tomatoes
- 10 to 12 shallots. ( peel the skin and keep )
- 4 to 5 red chillies
- 1 garlic pod ( optional)
- very small piece of tamarind.
- a small piece of ginger.
- oil 1 tbsp.
- 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.
- salt to taste.
For seasoning.
- 1 tbsp cooking oil.
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds.
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida
- few curry leaves.1 small red chilly.
Method.
Heat a pan and add oil. When it is hot fry the channa daal , red chillies and tamarind piece . Let the daal become red in colour and red chillies fried well. Take out and keep aside.
In the same oil add peeled chopped shallots ,garlic pod and ginger piece. .Let the raw smell goes. Now add the chopped tomatoes. Fry till the tomatoes become mushy. Add chopped coriander leaves. Mix well. Switch off the stove. Let it become cool.
In a mixer jar put everything. Add salt. Grind well. Make paste of this.
If you want thick chutney do not add water. If you want little watery consistency add water and grind. Take out from the mixer jar .
Heat the oil. When it is hot add mustard seeds. When it started slputtering add asafoetida, curry leaves and 1 small red chilly. Pour over this to the chutney.
Serve with dosa, Idly, Paniyaram, set dosa, aappam, adai etc.
Looks so yummy! I would love to take it with spongy dosa. 🙂
