Rawa idly is one of the easiest popular breakfast item from South . If you dont have dosa batter or idly batter rawa idly is the best option We can make rawa idly instantly with very few ingredients.
Let us see how to make this easy breakfast.
Preparation time approx. 15 to 20minutes.
- 1 cup rawa . (no need of roasting. if you are using roasted rawa that is also good to make idly)
- 1 cup thick buttermilk. ( i used normal buttermilk, not much sour buttermilk.)
- 5 grams eno salt.
- a pinch of cooking soda
- 1 green chilly chopped nicely.
- 1/2 tsp grated ginger. ( optional)
- 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.
- 2 tbsp grated carrot ( optional).
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds.
- 1/2 tsp channa daal.
- 1/2 tsp urad daal.
- 2 or 3 chopped curry leaves.
- 1tbsp oil.
- oil for brushing moulds.
Heat a pan . Add oil and add mustard seeds. When it started spluttering add urad and channa daal. Let it become brown then add chopped green chillies, grated ginger and curry leaves.
If do not like seasoning you can omit this step and just add chopped green chillies and grated ginger to the batter.
In a wide bowl mix rawa, butter milk, salt , seasonings , chopped coriander leaves and a pinch of soda mix well and keep aside. In the mean time heat a pan or idly cooker with little water. Apply oil to the idly plates and sprinkle little grated carrot in the moulds and keep aside.
Let the water boil in the cooker.
Now check the rawa batter. Your batter must be very thick. Add one to 2 tbsp water and mix it if needed. Do not add too much water. Now check the consistency. We should be able to pour this in the mould. (consistency should be thicker than normal idly batter.)
Add one tbsp water to the eno and add to the batter. Immediately mix this well. You can see bubbles forming. Pour this in the idly mould and steam this for 10 -15 minutes.
switch off the stove. Wait for 3 or 4 minutes. Now remove idlies from the mould.
After adding eno we should pour the batter immediately . We can’t keep this for more time.This step is very important to get fluffy soft idlies.
Serve the idlies with sambar or any chutney.
