Matta rice coconut dosa.

Matta rice or red rice or plakkadan matta rice is very healthy compared to white rice. I tried coconut dosa with matta rice. It turned out very yummy. I like raw mango chutney for this dosa. You can make any chutney of your choice. For making this dosa we need not ferment the batter. We can make the dosa instantly. Let us see how to make this dosa.

Preparation time approx 10 minutes.

Soaking time 6 to 7 hours or over night.


1cup matta rice ( plakkadan brown rice. I used Nirapara brand rice.)

1/2 cup Idly rice.

1 cup or little less grated fresh coconut.

salt to taste.


Wash the rice 2 to 3 times. Soak both the rice together over night.

Grind the rice first adding very little water. Now add grated fresh coconut and grind it. Add water to grind. Do not make the batter very smooth. Add salt and take it.

If you want to make like thick ada dosa you need not add extra water. Pour the batter on a hot tawa. Add oil on the dosa. When one side is cooked flip it. Cook other side also. Take out and serve.

If you want little crispy dosa add some more water to the batter and dilute it.

Now make dosa. Once one side is cooked flip it and cook the other side also.


I used a mix of coconut and thiloil . You can use only thill oil also.

You can add moringa or muringa keerai for better taste and health.

Serve with any chutney or manga chammandhi (i have already posted manga chammandhi recipe in my blog.)
