Thanni kozhukkattai is one of the popular traditional breakfast dish from Kerala. Rice and coconut are the main ingredient for making this kozhukkattai. We have to grind the rice and coconut and cook the kozhukkattai in hot water. This water is very tasty to drink and has lot of health benifits also. I learnt this recipe from my grand ma. We can make this kozhukkattai with brown rice or mix of matta rice and idly rice. I used idly rice alone to make this . Raw mango chutney( I have already posted the recipe) is one of the best combo for this kozhukkattai. I love to eat with jaggery also. Let us see how to make this kozhukkattai.’
Preparation time approx 20 to 25 minutes.
soaking time 5 to 6 hours.
1 cup Idly rice.
1cup grated fresh coconut.
salt to taste.
Soak the rice in water for 5 to 6 hours. Grind it with coconut and salt. Do not add much water. Batter should not be very smooth.
Heat a pan add this batter and mix well. It will become a thick dough. IT will take 3 to 4 minute to do this step.
In the meantime boil 3 litres of water in a deep pan.
Take a small pieces of batter and make it in to round shape balls and keep aside.
Once the water is boiled add these ball to hot boiling water one by one.
Do not mix it. Cook this for 10 minutes. Switch off the stove. Eat hot kozhukkattai with raw mango chutney or jaggery.
