Karasev is one of the spicy traditional snacks. Spicy karasev  is a good evening snack.Very easy to make. I am giving you step by step with pictures for making Karasev.

Preparation time Approx 45 minutes

  • 2 1/2 cup channa dhal or besan
  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 2 tbsp pepper coarsely crushed
  • 1 tsp chilly powder ( optional) I have not used chilly powder in my preparation.
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • A pinch of cooking soda
  • Around 1 cup of water to mix.
  • Salt to taste
  • .In a mixing bowl add channa dhal and rice flour

Mix 1 tbsp ghee and soda. With fingers mix it very well. Bubbles will form and you will get a paste .

Powder pepper into coarse powder.( do not make smooth powder)


Mix channa dhal, rice flour, pepper, ghee soda mix and salt. If you are using chilly

Powder add now. Mix everything.

Add water slowly .Do not add the water fully.


Mix it with hands and make stiff tuff dough

Heat oil. Put a tiny bit of dough into oil. If it come up, your oil is ready for frying. Keep the flame in medium .

Fill the traditional press using achu (mould) with dough.


Press directly to hot oil.Do not press  continuously. We will get smaller pieces of  Karasev..


Stir in between


When the bubbles stop remove from oil and keep in tissue paper.


Store in airtight container.
