This is an authentic Tamil Brahmin dish served with rice . It goes very well with vetha kuzhambu, jeera rasam and any vegetable subji. This is a very simple dish. You can adjust the spice level according to your taste. I like to mix paruppu thogayal with plain rice adding a spoon of ghee. Let us see how to make this.
Preparation time approx 10 to 15 minutes:
Ingedients:
- 1/2 cup thuar dhal
- 1/4 cup grated coconut

- 1/4 tsp asafotedia
- Salt to taste
- Small gooseberry size tamarind
- 1 tsp coconut oil( can use any oil of your choice)
Method

Take out from oil. Add red chillies fry for few seconds take out.
Add pepper corns fry for few seconds take out. Add tamarind and fry to this add asafotedia and fry for seconds. Take out.
In a mixer add coconut gratings and chilies, tamarind, pepper salt. Grind this. Add very little water.
The consistency of the thogayal should be thick. So do not add too much water.
Let the coconut and all other ingredients ground well. Now add thuar dhal.
Grind everything together. Thuar dhal should not grind smooth. Take out .
Serve with hot rice and ghee.
