Nei payasam is one of the popular payasam of kerala temples. Generally it is made with rice. I thought of giving a twist to this regular payasam and tried with lapsi or daliya. It tastes very good.The taste is similar to rice payasam. It is easy to make with very few ingredients.Let us see how to make this yummy payasam. We can increase or decrease the quantity of the ghee according to your tastes.
- 1 cup of lapsi
- 21/2 cup of water
- 4 to 5 tbsp ghee. (As per your taste you can increase or decrease the quantity )
- 2 heaped cups of grated jaggery.
Pressure cook lapsi with water for 3 whistles and keep aside.
Melt the jaggery with little water. Strain the the syrup.
Again boil the syrup for 2 minutes and add cooked lapsi or dhaliya.
Add 2 tbsp ghee and mix well.
Let the lapsi and Jaggery cook for few minutes.
In between you can add little ghee.
When it become thick switch off gas.
Fry cashews or chopped coconut pieces in ghee and add.
I have omitted the last step.
I have not added too much ghee .
original recipe suggested more ghee. We can reduce it to one or two spoons.
