Arbi or Chembu or Colocasia roast

Arbi roast is one of the simple side dish with rice. In hindi we are telling arbi  in english colocasia  in tamil cheppan kizhangu in malayalam it is chembu. Very easy side dish without onion and garlic . We can make this with in few minutes. I have not added much oil to make them roast.

 

Preparation time apparox 40 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 300 gram arbi.
  • 1 tsp gram flour or besan
  • 1 tsp chilly powder. ( Adjust to taste)
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

For seasoning

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp channa dal
  • 1/4 tsp urad daal
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • few curry leaves

Method.

Wash and clean the arbi.

In a pressure cooker add little water.

Add arbi and pressure cook for 2 whistles.

Manually release the pressure.

Open the cooker and take out arbi.

Remove the skin.

Take the arbi in a vessel.

Sprinkle gram flour, turmeric powder, red chilly powder and salt.

Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. When it started crackling add both daals , asafoetida and curry leaves. Fry till daal become brown. Now add arbi to the seasoning.

Keep the stove on low fire. Cook till it is crispy.
