Beetroot Hummus

Hummus is one of the famous cuisine from Middle eastern part of the globe. It is very simple to make this dish with very few ingredients. I made this beetroot hummus without tahini. This simple recipe is a wonderful snack or a spread for sandwiches or with pita bread and veggies. Its a blend of boiled chickpeas, lemon juice, olive oil and garlic. We can use canned channa also. But i prefer fresh ones.  Today for the flavour i have added boiled beetroot. Let us see how to make this simple recipe without tahini.

Preparation time approx 20 minutes.

soaking time overnight or 6 hours

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of  Chick peas or white  channa
  • 1 very small beetroot. cooked
  • 1 tbsp white sesame or white thil
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 or 3 single pod of garlic
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice.
  • salt to taste
  • 1 red chilli or little paprika

Method

Soak the chickpea overnight or at least 6 hours. Pressure cook well. Strain all the water and keep aside.

Cook the beetroot well. I cooked in microwave.

Dry fry white sesame . Take care not to burn the sesame seeds.

Once the chickpea and beetroot become cool blend everything in a blender without adding water.

If you are finding  it difficult to blend add very little water. Blend smoothly.

Add little olive oil before serving on the top of hummus.

garnish with sesame seeds.
