Nendranpazham pulisseri.(Plantain curd curry)

Nendran pazham pulisseri is  very traditional curry which is popular in Kerala. Nendran pazham means plantain banana. This curry can made with vegetables or ripped mango also. Today I tried with plantain . It is little sweet, tangy and spicy in taste.We can have this with hot rice, dosa, idly, sevai, idiyappam.Let us see how to make this traditional curry.

Preparation time approx 20 to 30 minutes.

Ingredients.

  • 1 big nendranpazham or plantain.
  • 2 cups curd.
  • 1 cup grated coconut.
  • 8 green chillies. ( adjust according to your taste)
  • 1/2 tsp red chillies
  • 1/2 tsp jeera.
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder.
  • salt to taste
  • Seasiongs
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil.
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds.
  • 1 red chilly
  • 1/4 tsp methis seeds.
  • few curry leaves.

Method.

Remove the skin of banana and slice it in to thick pieces.

Grind green chillies, jeera and grated coconut in to a fine paste. Keep aside.

In a yok or kadai or vessel add banana pieces  and 1/2 cup of water, turmeric powder, red chillies and salt and few curry leaves.

Let it cook on medium fire.

Once it is cooked add curd, and the ground paste. Add water  and adjust the consistency. Take care curd should not curdle.

Heat a pan add oil. Add mustard seeds. Let it start crackling. Add methi seeds, red chilly and curry leaves. Pour over the gravy.

Serve with hot rice.
