Mambazha pachadi

Mambazham menas riped mangoes. This pachadi is one the popuar traditional dish of  Kerala. It is one of the unavoidable dish for festivals, marriages, birthdays etc. I love any dish making with mangoes. I used alphonso mango for making this. You can use any mango variety which is very sweet. Let us see how to make this dish.

Preparation time approx 10 minutes.

Ingredients.

  • 1 well riped mango.
  • 4 tbsp grated coconut.
  • 1 red chilly
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder.
  • 1/2 tsp jaggery. ( if it is not much sweet add little more jaggery)

For Seasoning

  • 1 tbsp cooking oil.
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds.
  • 1/4 tsp channa daal.
  • 1/4 tsp urad daal.
  • A pinch of asafoetida.
  • few curry leaves.
  • 1 small red chilly.

Method.

Grind coconut gratings with red chilly. Make a paste adding little water.

Cut the mangoes into pieces. ( i have not peeled the skin. If you wish you can peel the skin and cut)

In a pan add 1 cup of water mangeos, turmeric powder and salt. Let it boil nicely.Let the mangoes cook well. Add the ground masala. Cook for a minute. If the gravy is very thick add little water. Add jaggery and mix well.

Heat oil . Add mustard seeds. When it started spluttering add both daals. Let it become brown. Now add curry leaves, 1 red chilly, hing. Mix and pour over the curry. Serve with hot rice.
