Moong daal Idly, or Diet Idly or pasi paruppu Idly.

Moong daal idly is very easy to make with no fermentation , zero oil. Moong daal is good for weight loss and it is rich in Nutrients , lowers diabetes, high in protein and it is a good source of antioxidants.

I have already posted moong daal idly recipe in my blog using urad daal and with fermentation. This recipe is much more easier to make idlies instantly if you dont have time for fermentation. I am using only moong daal to make this Idly. Let us see how to make this.

I have posted pictures of Idlies with vegetables also.


Preparation time approx 20 minutes.

Soaking time 3 hours.


  • 1 cup moong daal or pasiparuppu.
  • 3 green chillies
  • 1 inch ginger,
  • 5 grams of eno salt.
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.
  • salt to taste.


Soak the moong daal for 3 hours. Grind this with chillies and ginger. Add salt and coriander leaves. Mix well. We need not ferment this batter.

Boil water in the Idly cooker. Grease the plates of Idly maker. Keepaside.

Add eno salt and mix well. Once you have added eno do not keep the batter. Pour on idly moulds immediately and steam cook this for 10 minutes.

Open the plate and check . Insert a needle or stick inside the idlies. Idlies should not stick on the needle. Your idlies are ready to serve.

Serve with sambar or any kind of chutney of your choice.


1/2 Cup grated carrots

1/4cup chopped coriander leaves

Add these in to the Idly  batter and make Idlies.
