One pot meal
Rasam is an unavoidable appetizer for every Southindian family. Rasam is tangy, spicy soup like gravy made with tamarind, tomatoes, and some spices which we are consuming with rice or we can drink as it is. There are different varieties of rasam we can make. Today I am giving you an one pot dish with rasam. Sadam means cooked rice in tamil. Rasam sadam means rasam rice. This dish one pot meal is very easy to make . We can add tamarind or lemon juice to make this dish. Let us see how to make this yummy one pot dish.
Preparation time approx 20 minutes.
Soaking time 30 minutes.
Ingredients.
1/2 cup raw rice
1/4 cup thuar daal
3/4 cup light tamarind juice.
3 medium size tomatoes.
3 tsp rasam powder.
1/2 tsp chilli powder.
2 green chillies .
A small piece asafoetida / 1 /2tsp powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 tbsp ghee.
Few curry leaves
4 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.
3 cup water.
1 tsp mustard seeds
1tsp jeera.
1/4 cup hot water
Method.
Soak daal and rice together for 30 minutes. Keep aside.
Squeeze soaked tamarind and take 3/4 cup light tamarind juice.
In a pressure pan/ cooker add ghee. When it is hot add mustard seeds. Let it crackle. Add jeera and fry. Add asafoetida saute. Now add chopped tomatoes, green chillies, curry leaves, coriander leaves, salt,turmeric powder, red chilly powder, rasam powder. Mix all this and Saute.
Add 3 cups of water , 3/4 cup tamarind juice and salt. When it started boiling add strained rice and daal mix. Close the cooker and pressure cook 4 to 5 whistles.
Let the steam go manually. Open the cooker and add 1/4 cup hot water. Cook for a minute. Add 1 tsp ghee . This is optional.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
