Rasakalan.

Rasakalan is one of the popular traditional dish of kerala. It is a mix of tamarind and curd with coconut spice mix. We can add any country vegetables. It goes well with rice dosa,idly,kozhukkattai ,aappam etc. Let us see how to make this curry.

Preparation time approx. 20 minutes.

Ingredients.

100 gram white pumpkin.

100 gram yellow pumpkin ( preferably tender one with skin )

1 raw banana.

4 or 5 Colocassia or arbi

1 drumstick cut into long pieces.

2 small brinjals.

1 cup thin tamarind juice.

1 cup yogurt

5 to 6 tbsp grated fresh coconut.

6 green chillies ( adjust as per your taste)

3 red chillies.

1/2 tsp turmeric powder.

2 tbsp coconut oil.

1 tsp mustard seeds.

1/2 tsp methi seeds.

2 red chillies. +2

Few curry leaves.

Method.

Cut all the veggies.

Cook the veggies in a cup of water adding salt and turmeric powder.

In the mean time grind coconut, green chillies, red chillies in to a fine paste adding little water.

Add tamarind water . Boil till the raw smell goes. Add coconut paste and yogurt. Mix well Add water and adjust the consistency of the curry. Boil this in medium heat. Switch off.

Heat oil. Add mustard seeds. Let this splutter. Add methi seeds and curry leaves. Pour this over the gravy.

Tips.

Yogurt should not be too sour.

Use any veggies of your choice.
