Mathan Erisseri
Mathan means yellow pumpkin . Erisseri is one of the traditional dish of Kerala. We can make erisseri with different veggies like yam and plantain. I love erisseri with Mathan or yellow pumpkin ( not too ripped) .This goes very well with hot rice. Erisseri is a mix of masala and fried coconut using coconut oil.
Preparation time approx 20 minutes.
Ingredients
- 250 gram yellow pumpkin not so ripped.
- 4 tbsp +2tbsp grated coconut
- 5 green chillies
- 1/2 tsp jeera
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
Seasoning - 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dhal
- 1/2 tsp channa dhal
- 1 red chilly
- Some chopped curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp hing.
Method
Cut the pumpkin into small pieces.
In a pan add 1/2 cup of water.add pumpkin, haldi and salt. Cook the pumpkin .It should not be mushy. If water is less add little more water.
Grind 4 tbsp coconut with jeera and green chillies into a nice paste adding water.
Add this to cooked pumpkin. Just boil for a minute and switch off the stove.
In a kadai add coconut oil. When it is hot add mustard seeds. Add urad and channa dhal.when the dhals became brown add 1 red chilly.. Add curry leaves and hing.Fry for few seconds. Pour this seasings over the curry. Mix well and and serve.
