Vegetable wheat Momos.

Veg momos, a steamed dumpling stuffed with mixed vegetables, is a delicious snack food enjoyed in Tibet region. This dish is very popular  in Nepal. This vegetarian momo recipe uses a delicious assortment of mixed vegetables as the filling. Today I have tried momos with wheat flour instead of all purpose flour for more healthier version.

Schezwan sauce is made with red chillies, onions, garlic and little ketchup. Vegetable momos with schezwan sacue are a good combination. Let us see how to make this healthy version of momos and sauce.

Preparation time approx .45 minutes

For Momos.

  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup water.
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp oil.


  • 1/3 cup chopped capsicum
  • 1/2 cup chopped cabbage.
  • 1/2 cup grated carrots
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion.
  • 1/3 cup spring onions chopped.
  • 2 green chillies chopped.
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp chopped garlic
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • Salt to taste.
  • 2 tbsp olive oil.



Mix wheat flour, salt, oil. Add water little by little and make a smooth dough. (Adjust water measurements.)

Heat a pan. Add olive oil.
Add garlic and ginger. Saute for few seconds then  add onion and spring onions. Add salt. Mix well. Now add vegetables one by one. Fry for few minutes in low flame. Add soy sauce. When vegetables are cooked switch off gas. Vegetables should be crunchy.


Take very small portion of dough. Roll like poori. Dust atta for spreading.


Keep a  big spoon of vegetables in the centre of the dough.


Make pleats  at the edges of the rolled dough. Close the rolled dough by joining all the edges together. Keep the remaining batter in the middle as a lock as shown in the picture.


Make all the Momos like this.


In a steamer or idly cooker add 2 glass of water and boil.
Apply some oil on the steaming plate.
Arrange all the Momos.
Close it with a lid and steam cook for 10 to 13 minutes.
Switch off gas.


Serve with spicy  Schezwan red chilly sauce.

Schezwan red chilly sauce


  • 2 tomatoes.
  • 7 to 8 red chillies soak in water for 15 minutes.
  • 1 small size onions.
  • 2 garlic pods.
  • 2 tsp chopped garlic
  • 1 tsp chopped ginger
  • 2 tbsp chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • Salt to taste.
  • 1 tsp soy sauce.
  • 2 tbsp olive oil.


Soak red chillies in little water.
Pressure cook for 2 whistles red chillies,tomatoes,onion and 2 garlic pods.
When it is cool paste all these.
Heat a pan . Add olive oil. Add chopped ginger,garlic. Saute. Now add 2 tbsp chopped onions. Fry till it turn gold colour. Add the ground chillies,onion, tomato mix.
Boil for a minute.
Add ketchup and soy sauce. Add salt. Boil for a minute and switch off stove.
