Keerai means green vegetables. This is one of the traditional dish of Palghat Very healthy and easy to make . I used spinach or palak to make this dish. Added cooked moong daal and ground paste of coconut , jeera, red chillies and urad dal. We can use any vegetable to make this dish. Instead of moong daal we can use thuar dal also. Let us see how to make this simple dish.
Preparation time 20 minutes approx
- 2 bundles of spinach finely chopped
- 1/2 cup cooked moong dal.
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp urad dal
- 3 to 4 red chillies
- 1/2 cup fresh grated coconut.
- 1 tbso oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
Wash the spinach with lot of water and chop in to pieces. Cook with 1 cup of water adding turmeric powder. Mash this nicely or using a blender blend it and keep aside..
Heat 1/4 tsp oil and fry the urad dal and red chilles. Let the dal become brown .Add this to jeera and grated coconut and grind to a smooth paste and keep aside.
Cook the moong dal or thuar dal.
Now mix dal,spinach and ground paste. mix it well and boil it. Add water according to the consistency of the gravy, When it started boling switch off the stove.
Heat oil and add mustard seeds.Pour over the gravy.
Serve with hot rice.
You can use any variety of greens to make this gravy.
