Bulgar wheat pilaf

Bulgar wheat is a staple food of Turkey. We can make different varities of food with bulgar wheat, even we can cook this and add to salads also. Bulgar wheat  is a whole wheat grain that has been cracked and partially pre-cooked. Bulgar wheat is packed with vitamins. fiber and protein. When I visited Tukey last week i tasted this in a hotel. I got the recipe from one of the chef of that hotel. It is very simple, easy to make this dish with very few ingredients. Let us see how to make this yummy food.

Preparation time approx 20 minutes.

Ingredients.

  • 1 cups bulgar wheat
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste.
  • 1 big size tomato grated.
  • 2 pods of garlic.
  • 1 white onion chopped
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1/2 tsp hot chilly powder
  • 1/4 tsp pepper powder
  • 2 to 3 green chillies ( very less spicy variety or turkish chilli)
  • salt to taste.
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp olive oil.
  • 4 cups of water.

Method.

In a pan boil 4 cups of water. When it started boiling add washed bulgar wheat and cook. Keep the stove on low flame. Close the bulgar wheat with a lid nd cook. Le it cook. Add little salt. It will cook with in 10 to 13 minutes on medium flame.When it is cooked  keep aside.

In the mean time in a nonstic pan add olive oil and butter. Add chopped green chillies and saute. Now add chopped garlic and onions.

Sute a few seconds and add tomato puree. Fry this. Now add tomato puree and mix. Add little salt only for the sauce. Now add thyme, red chilly powder, pepper powder. Mix well and add 1 cup of water and cook. Add cooked bulgar wheat and mix wel. Close this with a lid and cook on low flame. Whe all sauces are absorbed by the bulgar wheat switch off the stove.
