Thakkali kuruma or Tomato curry

There are different methods of making tomato curry. I have already posted tomato kuruma with mutter pulao rice. This curry is different . It goes very well with Idiyappam, Puri, aappam, dosa, Idly, paniyaram, oothappam etc. Let us see how to make this easy gravy.

Preparation time approx 20 minutes.

Ingredients.

  • 3 big size tomato.
  • 1 onion
  • 1/4 cup coconut gratings.
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 small piece ginger.
  • 1/4 tsp saunf
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.
  • 2 garlic pods ( optional)
  • 1/2 tsp chilly powder.
  • 1/2 tsp sambar powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1tbsp oil
  • 1/4 tsp jeera
  • salt to taste.
  • few coriander leaves.

Method.

Heat little oil and add saunf ,garlic, ginger, green chillies and fry for few seconds then add chopped onion. Fry till it is transparent. Add coconut gratings and chopped coriander leaves. Fry for few more seconds. Remove it from fire. Let it come to room temparature. Now grind the masala in a mixer grinder in to a smooth paste adding little water.

Heat little oil and add jeera. Fry for few seconds. Now add the ground masala. Fry till it becomes thick. Now add chopped tomatoes and mix very well. Add 1 cup of water and cook.Let the tomatoes cook well . Add sambar powder, chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt to taste.Mix well. If the gravy is very thick add 1/2 more cup of water.(adjust the consistency of the gravy). Let the tomatoes cook well and become mushy.

Remove from fire and garnish with coriander leaves.
