Uppu cheedai is a popular savory snack made for Janmashtamy. My family love to eat cheedai at anytime. There are many methods to make this uppu cheedai. Everyone is scared to make this because it may burst when we are frying. Today i am giving an easy and very safe method to make this cheedai. No fear of bursting also. I have already posted cheedai recipe in my blog with wheat flour. This one is traditional method. I used store bought rice flour and urad flour. If urad daal powder is not available in your place i am giving the recipe for making it at home. Let us see how to make this snack.
Preparation time approx 30 minutes.
- 1cup Idiyappam powder.(store bought)
- 2 tsp urad daal powder( store bought)
- 1 heaped spoon butter.
- 1/2 tsp crushed pepper .
- 1/2 tsp asafoetida.
- 1/2 cup grated coconut ( if you want to reduce the amount add 4 tbsp ) .
- salt to taste.
- oil for deep frying.
Fry idyappam powder till it is warm.(when the flour is hot take a pinch and draw a line. It should come proper line then your rice flour is ready to use)
Fry urad daal powder till it is warm.
Mix both the flours. Sieve twice . There should not be any impurities .
Now add butter, salt and pepper. Mix it well with hand. Add grated coconut. Mix it with hand and make a dough adding very little water. Take out small portion from this dough and make small round balls. Do not not press hard to make the round shape.
Make the full batter like this . In the mean time in a deep pann heat some cooking oil for deep frying. When the oill it hot add 10 too 15 balls and deep fry. Inbetween mix it and fry. When the bubbles stopped take this out. Spread in a tissue. Store in air tight container. It will stay for few days.
Methof of making urad daal powder at home.
Take 1/4 cup of urad daal and dry fry till it turns coclour. Let it cool down. Powder this in a mixi. Sieve the flour and keep aside.
