Mirch ka salan

Mirch ka salan is a popular curry made with green chilles as a side dish for biryani. This salan is a good combo for parotta, roti, phulka, dosa, idly ,idiyappam etc.

Let us see how to make this curry.

Preparation time approx. 30 minutes.

Ingredients.

5. Long green chillies ( less spicy).

3 tbsp peanuts

2 tbsp white thil/ white sesame seeds.

2 tbsp dry coconut.

2 chopped onions.

1 tsp chopped ginger.

1 tsp chopped garlic.

1 green chilly

Few curry leaves.

1 tsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp cumin powder.

1/2 tsp turmeric powder.

1/4 spoon garam masala powder.(optional)

1 tbsp kashmiri chilly powder.

1/2 tsp chilli powder

1 tsp oil

Salt to taste.

For seasoning

3 tbsp oil.

1/2 tsp mustard seeds.

1/2 tsp cumin seeds.

1/2 tsp onion seeds/ kalonji.

Method.

Dry fry peanuts. When it is fried add sesame seeds dry fry till it crackle. Add dry coconut. Fry till it turns colour. Take out and put is in a mixer jar. Let them cool.

Heat 1 tsp oil. Add chopped onions fry till it is shiny. Add ginger , garlic, curry leaves and 1 green chilly. Fry for a minute. Add this to mixture jar. Grind everything smoothly adding little water. Make a paste. Keep aside.

Heat 3 tbsp oil.

Slit the green chilles. Do not cut in to half.

Fry this in hot oil. When white patches will appear on chillies. Take out from oil.

In the same oil add mustard seeds. Let it crackle. Add cumin seeds ,onion seeds and curry leaves. Fry this. Keep the stove on low flame. Add red chilly powder. Saute well. Add the ground paste. Fry this till the oil ooze out. It will take 10 minutes on low flame. Now add coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder and salt. .

Mix well. Add little water. Mix well. Add the fried green chillies. Adjust water for the correct consistency. Cook for 5 minutes on low flame.

Serve.
