Paruppu sadam/ dhal rice.

Paruppu means daal .With very few ingredients we can make this healthy, yummy rice in pressure cooker. I have not used any vegetables. With thuar daal, shallots and tomatoes we can make this rice..There is no need of any side dish for this rice. This rice is good for lunch box..

Let us see how to make this.

Preparation time approx 10 to 15 minutes.

Soaking time 30 minutes.

Ingredients.

1 cup rice. ( I used basmati rice)

1/4 cup thuar dhal.

2 big size chopped tomatoes.

20 shallots

4 garlic pods.

2 green chillies.

1 tsp sambar powder ( adjust according to your taste)

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

Few chopped curry leaves.

1 tbsp ghee

1 tbsp oil.

1/ 2 tsp mustard seeds.

1/2 tsp jeera

.1/4 tsp pepper corn.

1/2 tsp asafoetida.

2 cups of water.

Method.

Soak rice and dhal together for 30 minutes.

In a pressure cooker add oil and ghee. Once it is hot add mustard seeds. Let it splutter. Add jeera, green chillies and pepper corns. Fry till it jeera roasted. Add curry leaves and asafoetida. Saute for few seconds now add garlic and shallots. Fry this it became shiny. Add tomatoes. Fry this onlow fire. Add turmeric powder, sambar powder and salt. Let the tomatoes become mushy now add water.

Strain the rice and dhal. Add to masala. Combine everything well. Add water. Let it boil. Close it with lid and pressure cook for 2 whistles.

Switch off the stove. Let the pressure goes manually. Open and serve.
