Tomato kuzhambu or kuruma or curry for peas pulav and plain rice
This tomato kuzhambu is very simple and easy to make. I tried this recipe for mutter pulav which is less spicy.I have not added much masalas.
Tomato kurma is a good combo for plain mutter pulav or rice. We can make this gravy with in 10 minutes. My son love this curry with mutter pulav.
You can adjust the spice level according to your taste.
Mutter pulav is very easy to make and non spicy.
Let us learn how to make this kuzhambu and pulav.
Preparation time approx 15 minutes
- 4 medium sized red firm tomatoes
- 2 Green chillies sliced lengthwise
- 1 big or 2 medium size onions ( sliced lengthwise)
- 1/4 spoon turmeric powder
- 1 cup thick coconut extract.
- Curry leaves
- 1 tbsp oil.
- Salt to tasteGrind together
- 5 red chillies
- 1/4 inch ginger
- 1/2 tsp jeera
- 1 1/2 tbsp grated fresh coconut
1 tsp khus khus( dry fry )
grind everything in to a smooth paste adding water and keep.
Slice onions and tomatoes lengthwise.
Heat oil and add green chillies.
fry green chillies. Add onions and curry leaves. Let it fry .when the raw smell goes add ground masala and fry for a minute. Add turmeric powder and salt.Add little water.let it boil .
Then add tomatoes and cook. Do not over cook.Add coconut milk.cook 3 more minutes stirring continously .
optional: you can add 1/2 tsp garam masala if you want.
Remove from fire serve hot.

soaking time 20 minutes
- 1 cup Basmati rice ( soaked for 20 minutes)
- 1/4 cup frozen mutter .boil and keep
- 4 green chillies slices lengthwise.
- 1 tsp jeera
- 2tbsp butter
- Salt to taste
- 1 bay leaf
- 4 lavang
1 small piece cinnamon stick.
water to cook rice.
In a pan take 2 to 3 liters of water add salt and bay leaf . When it started boiling add soaked rice and cook. It should not be mushy. Strain the water and keep.
In a kadai add butter. Let it melt in slow flame. Add jeera .when it started crackle add lavang,cinnamon,green chillies then cooked peas.saute this. Add salt for mutter. we have added salt to rice. so add salt only for mutter.
Then add cooked rice. Mix well.
