Magizhampoo murukku, thenkuzhal or mullu murukku

One of the popular traditional snack from South India for an evening with a cup of hot coffee or tea. Made with dhal powder,rice flour  and the taste of coconut milk which gives a special taste to this murukku. Its very crispy , crunchy and perfect for anytime munch.

Preparation time approx 40 mnutes

Ingredients

  • 1.cup Idiyappam Flour or rice flour
  • 1/3 cup Moong Dal 
  •  1 tbsp Butter (in room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup Thick Coconut milk 
  • 1/2 tsp jeera 
  • Salt – for taste
  • Oil – for deep frying

Method.

Dry roast moong dal till slightly golden color, cool down and transfer to mixer.Grind it to a fine powder.

Sieve the powdered flour  well.

In a big bowl mix rice flour, moong dhal powder, salt , butter, jeera .Mix it very well.

Add coconut milk and with hands mix it to make the dough. Add water to make soft,non sticky  dough in correct consistency.

Fill the press with the dough using mullu murukku blade make the murukku in a greased sheet or behind the laddle. Make it into round shape murukku.

In a big kadai add oil and heat it. When it is hot put a pinch of dough and see whether your oil is ready  to fry. The dough pinch will raise up from the bottom. So now your oil ready for frying.

Add the murukku one by one to oil.  Fry the murukku in medium flame.

Flip the murukku and fry both sides till you get golden color.

Do not over cook.

Take out from oil and spread in a tissue  paper .

Make the dough fully and fry the murukkus.

Keep the murukku  in an air tight container and use.
