Ragada Pattice

 

 Ragada pattice is a popular street food of Mumbai which is served with aloo pattice and boiled white peas garnished  with green chutney, sweet chutney , raw onions, grated carrots, chopped tomato and sev. Today I shallow fried the pattice. For more healthier version we can bake the pattice .Let us see how to make this yummiest evening snack.

 

For ragada

  • 1 heaped cup white dried peas. ( vattana)
  • 1/2 tsp haldi
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp chaat masala.

For pattice

  • 3 big potatoes boiled mashed.
  • 1/2 cup powdered oats or bread crumbs
  • Little chopped dhaniya leaves
  • 1/4 tsp dhaniya powder
  • 1/4 tsp Garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste

Other things needed

  • Green chutney
  • Imli date chutney
  • Chopped onions
  • Chopped tomatoes
  • Grated carrots optional
  • Chopped dhaniya leaves
  • Hing
  • Sev
  • Chaat masala

Method

Soak white peas for 7 hours
Pressure cook  soaked white peas adding 4 cups of water. Add salt, haldi , hing,
Pressure cook. Mash the peas little to get a thick gravy. Add chaat  masala. Keep aside.

Mix all the ingredients for pattice. Make round balls. Press it in round shape.
Shallow fry or bake. Keep aside.

In a plate arrange 2 pattice .
Above that pour hot ragada.
On top of ragada pour tamarind chutney and green chutney.
Sprinkle onion, tomatoes, carrots. Sprinkle very little salt only for this.
Sprinkle good amount of sev and chaat masala.
Garnish with chopped dhaniya leaves

Tips

Boil potatoes. Never wash the hot potatoes in cold water. Just peel and mash. Otherwise it will be sticky.
For tamarind chutney …grind  soaked jaggery,dates and tamarind. Boil this adding little chilly powder. Then heat oil add saunf. Add this to chutney to get restaurant type chutney
