Wheat Flour cheedai

Wheat flour seedai.

Cheedai is one of the savoury items for the Janmashtami festival. Every one is scared to make seedai, because there is a chance it could burst while frying. Once it happened to me also. My mother tried cheedai with all purpose flour. Then only I got this idea of making cheedai with wheat flour. There is no need of worrying about bursting cheedai with wheat flour.

Preparation time approx. 1 hour.

Ingredients.

  • 1 cup heaped wheat flour.( I used ashirvad brand)
  • 1/4 cup riceflour.
  • 1 tbsp urad dhal powder( dry roast urad dal till you get good aroma and powder)
  • 1 tsp butter. ( at room temparature)
  • 1 tsp white sesame seeds
  • salt to taste.
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida powder ( hing).
  • water to mix.
  • oil for deep frying.

Method.

Take a clean white cloth and add wheat flour. Tie the wheat flour tightly. Steam cook this for 20 minutes. ( I steamed in an Idly cooker)

Let it cool. It will become a hard lump. You can powder this in a mixi .

Sieve the wheat flour. There should not be any lumps.

Now add rice flour, butter, salt, sesame seeds, hing. Mix it very well.

Add water little by little to make a stiff  dough. It should not be sticky.

Now make a small round shapes  and spread on a tissue paper or on a white cloth.

Heat the oil in a pan. Always keep the stove on medium.

Put some cheedai in the hot oil.  On medium fire fry this. Fry  till the cheedai turns brown colour and all bubbles will stop in the oil. Remove from oil and spread on  a tissue paper.

Store in a air tight container and use.
