Paruppuvada / dhal vada is one of the popular evening snack from Kerala. My husband likes paruppuvada very much. But because of the health issues we are not eating any deep fried foods. I tried paruppuvada in airfryer. It came out crispy and the tastes the same like deep fried. Let us see how to make this vada.
Preparation time approx 1 hour.
Baking time 16 minutes.
Ingredients.
1 cup vada parippu or 1cup channa dhaal.
7 to 8 red chillies.
1/2 cup chopped shallots
1/2 tsp asafoetida. Or small piece stone asafoetida soaked in water.
Few chopped curry leaves.
Salt to taste.
Method.
Soak the vada paruppu along with red chillies for 1 hour. Keep a hand full of dhaal aside.
Soak the stone asafoetida in water.
Strain water from channa dhaal or paruppu and grind very coarsely. ( I put this in mixer jar switched on my whopper blade. Just crush the dhaal without adding water.
Add asafoetida or soaked asafoetida. Add enough salt and chopped curry leaves. Add a handful of soaked dhal to vada batter. Mix everything well.
If you wish add chopped shallots also. Make round size balls and press with palms. Keep aside. Pre heat the airfryer for 3 minutes in 200 degrees.
Apply little coconut oil inside the plates of airfryer. Arrange the vadas.
Bake it for 8 minutes in 180 degrees.
Flip it .Brush little coconut oil on vadas . Bake for another 7 to 8 minutes. Check it should not over cooked.serve with hot coffee/ tea.
