Oats Idli

This is a healthy and easy breakfast for diet conscious people.

Approximate cooking time: 25 minutes


1 cup oats

1/2 cup lapsi or broken wheat

3/4 cup curd at room temperature

1/4 cup water (more or less)

2 tbsp grated carrots

2 tbsp chopped dhaniya leaves

1 small tsp eno

For seasoning:

1 tbsp cooking oil

1/4 spoon mustard

1/2 spoon urad dhal

1/2 spoon channa dhal

1 tsp chopped curry leaves

Pinch of hing


In a dry pan fry oats and lapsi together or the lapsi separately. Powder coarsely and keep aside

In a bowl mix oats, lapsi and curd well.

Add water according to the consistency of the batter.

Make sure it is not very thick or very thin. After this keep the batter aside for 15 minutes.

Add chopped dhaniya leaves to the batter.

In the mean time, grease the idli plates and sprinkle little grated carrots to each idli mold.

Heat some water in the idli cooker.

At this stage add eno to the idli batter and mix immediately. The batter will puff up and you can see the bubbles forming over the batter. Now pour the idi batter in each mold.

Steam cook for 20 to 25 minutes in medium flame.
