I stumbled upon this recipe while browsing the internet for low calorie breakfast items.
Chila is a hit at home, but wanted something with a twist. This stuffed moong chila can be made as per your liking. I used veggies that was pending in the fridge such as onions, carrots, capsicums along with paneer for some protein.
Let’s look at the simple steps for this chila.
Ingredients for the chila:
- 1 cup split moong dal soaked for 3-4 hours
- 3 green chillies
- A small piece of ginger
- Salt to taste
Ingredients for the stuffing:
- 200 gms of grated paneer
- 1 small chopped capsicum
- 1/2 grated carrot
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 1/2 tsp amchur/ mango powder
- 1 tsp red chilli (adjust according to taste)
- 1/2 garam masala
- 1/4 chopped dhaniya leaves
- 1 tbsp oil
Method:
For stuffing:
In a pan, heat the oil. Add ginger garlic paste- saute for a few seconds.
Now add finely chopped onions fry till it is transparent. Add chopped capsicum and grated carrot- saute this for 2-3 minutes.
Add amchur powder, chilli powder, salt to taste and garam masala.- Mix well with the veggies.
Switch off the stove. Add the grated paneer and dhaniya leaves.
For chila:
Grind the moong dal, ginger and green chillies coarsely and keep aside.
Heat a non stick pan or dosa pan, brush the pan with a drop of oil. Pour one laddle full of moong dal batter and spread it into a round shape (like a dosa). Pour 1 tsp of butter/ oil over the chila and cover the pan with a lid. Once the chila becomes brown, flip it so that it cooks well on both the sides.
Now, take a spoon full of the stuffing and place it in the middle of the chila as shown in the picture. Grated cheese can be sprinkled – this is optional.
Make a roll out of the chila by folding both sides.
Best served with ketchup or green chutney.
